On slightly cooler soils that its sibling Lafite Rothschild and often a little austere in its early years, in 2018 you will find a more generous Duhard Milon, with velvety tannins and plenty of mid palate generosity, helped by blackberry and damson fruits, and touches of chocolate shavings and spicy cigar box, still with the slate and pencil lead character so typical of the property. Great quality, will age well. 3.84ph, 37.5hl/h yield.

95 points Jane Anson

Sweet berries and cherries on the nose with sweet tobacco, lead pencil and blackcurrants. It’s full-bodied and very rich with layers of fruit and creamy tannins intertwined. Extremely long and creamy. Great Duhart. Try after 2026.

Neighbouring Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Duhart-Milon has quietly established itself as one of Pauillac's finest performers. Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1962, the estate has flourished under meticulous stewardship, producing Cabernet Sauvignon led wines that combine classical Pauillac structure with the elegance and precision synonymous with the Rothschild name. Today, Duhart-Milon is recognised as one of Bordeaux's most dependable Fourth Growths.

The outstanding 2018 vintage delivered beautifully concentrated fruit, with warm, dry conditions producing Cabernet Sauvignon of exceptional richness while retaining freshness and balance. The estate's deep gravel soils and careful élevage have shaped a wine of remarkable harmony, refinement and impressive ageing potential.

Deep garnet with youthful purple highlights, the bouquet reveals cassis, blackberry and black cherry layered with cedar, graphite and cigar box. As the wine evolves, notes of violets, pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and subtle spice emerge, adding complexity and unmistakable Pauillac character. The palate is beautifully structured, combining concentrated black fruits with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a finely etched mineral backbone. Powerful yet poised, the finish is long and refined, lingering with savoury spice, cedar and exceptional persistence.

A magnificent partner for Chateaubriand, roast lamb, venison loin, duck with black truffle or mature Comté. Already superb with extended decanting, this outstanding Pauillac has the pedigree and balance to reward collectors for decades.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2052.
