From whatever angle you look at this wine, it’s all about plush, ripe fruit and abundance. The plummy fruit aroma has the warmth of a summer afternoon and the lift of the slightest zephyr across Central Otago’s wild herbs on said afternoon. The underlay of floral bouquet adding depth and perfume.
Seamless glide to the entry and silky smooth tannins melt into the gentle texture and acid profile of the palate. There’s plushness, line and volume all bundled up in that Velvet Suit. It will happily cruise to 5 years in the cellar but why wait. Goes with Teppanyaki, hot off the charcoal grill.
Bright crimson red with clear red edges. Energetic when swirled - ripe strawberries; black cherries; rhubarb; bunchy spice; and a soft hand with quality oak. It has an Old World sensibility, fruit unravelling off a firm and confident core of sinewed tannins and oak. A terrific glass of wine of serious pinosity

I tasted this among a range of pinot noirs and it stood out head and shoulders. You’re only as good as your competition of course but the truth is that the quality here sits firmly and squarely. It’s beautifully spiced and the cut of tannin is noteworthy. I always like it when structure and spice stand out before fruit, though there’s nothing underpowered about the latter. It’s a boysenberried pinot with smoke notes and florals. There’s both a ripeness and a juiciness to the palate but there’s also an emphasis on dryness. It’s a most impressive wine.
