2018 Domaine A Pinot Noir, Coal River Valley

Domaine A Pinot Noir is a substantial style with fine tannic structure and great longevity. The small 2ha plot of low yielding Pinot Noir vines is situated on the highest part of the vineyard slope at Domaine A. Low yields of 4.5 tonnes per ha and small, concentrated berries mean it takes two vines to make a single bottle of fine Domaine A Pinot Noir. Winemaking includes small batch open fermentation, gentle hand plunging and maturation in seasoned French oak barriques for approximately 18 months to ensure true varietal expression. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Domaine A Pinot Noir is often a showcase of the incredibly concentrated fruit character of Stoney Vineyard, and this is no exception. Juicy, perfumed, ripe with berries (the full gamut—raspberry, blueberry, blackberry) and floral bursts of violet, rosewood, cedar and nutmeg. Vivid and rich on the palate with some nice rhubarb and mint developing there’s lively and refreshing acidity and great tannins before a long finish. An absolute treat.
