Very deep, bright, youthful red/purple colour, with a bouquet of smoked-meats, char-oak and earthy-graphite aromas, very much a Barossa shiraz. A luscious wine, decadent and opulent, powerful, concentrated and very long. It gets to every corner of the mouth. So impressive. (Barossa & Eden Valleys) 28 Aug 2012 Drink 2021–2043

The Bin 70 is named in celebration of Rob Gibson's 70th birthday, and the shiraz is sourced from both the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Deep crimson in the glass with a classic Barossa nose of plum and black fruits with underlying notes of baking spices, earthy/ferrous notes, dark chocolate, cedar, vanilla and panforte. Full bodied but shows some nice Eden Valley finesse and grace with excellent fine-grained tannins and a powerful yet composed flow across the palate finishing very long indeed. The oak is present but slides into the fruit beautifully. Style-wise, I guess you'd pop it in the 'traditional' camp – sometimes that can be a lovely, compelling drink and that is certainly the case here.

Bin 70 was a limited release bottling to celebrate winemaker and viticulturist Rob Gibson’s 70th Birthday in 2021.

A barrel selection of classic fine Shiraz which will stand the test of time, Bin 70 is an amalgam of Eden Valley (60%) and Barossa Valley (40%) fruit, from a clay loams and light granitic podzols. Single wire rod & spur trellis, which yielded 1.5 tonne per acre.

Dark red purple in colour, Bin 70 Shiraz boasts subtle complex aromas of vanilla bean, cinnamon and ripe red berries. The palate is beautiful with a charm and finesse rarely seen in Australia. It's lively, bright & not overstated, with bright red fruit (pomegranate) coming over just slightly sweet but perfectly balanced with citrus acidity. Some complex flavours are just starting to emerge. It departs gracefully leaving enticing savoury vinous notes lingering.
