Maybe I'm amazed! In spite of the density and concentration, this retains the light-footed and filigree character that are typical for this great vineyard site. A cornucopia of dried stone and tropical fruit, but also spices, dried herbs, a whiff of licorice and much else besides. Only just beginning to show what it's made of! Drink or hold.

The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Gold Capsule) is very clear, intense and concentrated on the precise and succulent nose that reveals clear and super precise stone fruit intermixed with chervil, tea and very fine slate aromas. Round and highly finessed on the palate, this is a sweet but very subtle, finessed and salty WSU with a piquant and highly stimulating finish. Fabulous. 375-milliliter bottles. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The 2018er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese GK was made from shrivelled rather than botrytized fruit, and was fermented down to noblesweet levels of residual sugar. It offers a gorgeous nose made of lemongrass, grapefruit zest, honeyed fig, fine spices, and herbal elements. This wine is still completely sweet and dominated by candy floss on the palate, but already hints at greatness to come in the incredibly juicy and suave finish. This great dessert wine has all the attributes of an Auslese lange GK and will prove irresistible at maturity. 2038-2068
