Located in Saint Marcel d’Ardèche on the western side of the Rhône river, at the very end of the gorge of the Ardèche, Mas de Libian has belonged to the Thibon family since 1670. A family winery handed down from generation to generation, these 25 hectares have always been worked organically and are certified biodynamic by Demeter; the soils have been subjected to neither pesticides nor weed-killers. The vineyards are plowed by horse. A terroir bathed in sunlight, Mas de Libian proudly identifies as a southern French winery by producing wines from a blend of different grape varieties (Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Counoise, Vaccarese, etc.) from a classically Rhône terroir of rounded river rocks and red clay.
Biodynamic rosé. This wine is drawn from the Estate’s younger vines, again spread across a selection of rocky terroirs, and comprises one third each of Grenache, Counoise and Syrah.
Using the Provençal model, all three varieties are slowly pressed into tank after a short maceration, thereafter fermenting with wild yeasts. These days, this is simply one of the most charming, mineral and delicious rosés of the Rhône Valley. The red-fruited and floral purity along with the powdery freshness and twist of Provençal herbs on the finish are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
