2 Golds, 5 Trophies
First planted by Maurice O'Shea in 1946, the Rosehill vineyard features a North-Easterly aspect and a unique volcanic soil structure atypical for the Hunter Valley. These ancient soils contribute to the distinctive character of Rosehill Shiraz. A sophistocated wine of complexity, elegance and grace, preceded by a nose of fresh violets which has become synonymous with this vineyard.
Deep purple with vivid violet hues. Intense red forest fruits, plum, subtle spice and the iconic Rosehill florals. Plummy and perfectly medium-bodied. Ripe red fruits dominate the fore, but a tight tannin structure brings balance with subtle spice. Drink 2022-2043.
It's not a 'look at me' wine, but it's so beautifully well fruited, balanced and flavoured. This is a seriously good option for the cellar. The tannin is ripped with earth and coffee notes, the fruit is black-cherried and bountiful, it's svelte of texture and sustained through the finish. It's both faultless and characterful and, all things considered, is extremely well priced.
