2019 Mountadam High Eden Chardonnay, Eden Valley

Selection of the best fruit of the estate; 500–550m elevation; I10V1, Mendoza and OF clones; vines 25–45yo; hand harvested; matured 18 months in 50% new French oak barriques. Packed with concentration and high-altitude tension, this is a chardonnay brimming with all of the hallmarks of intense grapefruit, white peach and fig. New French oak makes its mark, with roast cashew nut filling out a long finish. Cool, crystalline acidity holds a long finish. It will appreciate time to find integration and harmony. A winner for those who love full-bodied chardonnay. Impact over elegance.

On release the wine  is pale straw in colour.  It displays classic Chardonnay characters of peach, nectarine and fresh figs. French oak barrel fermentation and maturation gives the wine secondary aromas of cashew nuts and mixed spices. The palate has a complex mix of peach, citrus, cashew nuts, subtle truffle and spice characters throughout.  The mid palate is round and creamy but a clean citrusy acid  backbone  provides length and persistence to the wine.  The wine is  complex with no single character dominating the wine.  The flavour of the wine persists long after it has left the mouth.  The wine  will continue to reward careful cellaring for up to and possibly beyond 2026.
