2018 Roberto Sarotto Barolo DOCG, Piedmont

From the rolling hills of Barolo, this Nebbiolo captures a more approachable yet authentically styled expression of one of Italy’s greatest wines. Roberto Sarotto is known for crafting modern, polished Piedmont wines that balance tradition with accessibility, sourcing fruit from well positioned vineyards to deliver perfume, structure and generosity in equal measure. The aim is to showcase classic Barolo character while allowing earlier enjoyment, without sacrificing depth or ageing ability.

The colour is a bright garnet with youthful clarity. Aromas lift with rose petal, sour cherry and red plum, layered with dried herbs, liquorice and a gentle earthy note. The palate is medium to full bodied, with pure red fruit, fine grained tannins and a lively acid line that gives flow and food friendly balance. There is a savoury, mineral edge through the finish that keeps the wine poised and true to Nebbiolo’s character.

Excellent with braised beef, osso buco, mushroom dishes, truffle pasta and aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Drinking well now with air, it will cellar comfortably for ten to fifteen years, gaining classic tar, leather and savoury complexity.
