The 2018 Geremia is stellar. A wine of energy and delineation, Geremia is all about persistence more than volume in 2018. Blueberry, blackberry, lavender, licorice and scorched earth abound. In 2018, Geremia is a wine of tension and reserve. It's best days are far off in the future. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle anytime soon.

Rocca di Montegrossi Geremia Toscana Rosso IGT is a bold, structured and deeply expressive Super Tuscan that focuses on Bordeaux varieties grown in the heart of Chianti Classico. Made predominantly from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Geremia is a wine of dark fruit intensity and precision, yet it never loses the savoury, mineral edge that defines this historic estate in Gaiole in Chianti.

Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, whose family history in Chianti dates back nearly a thousand years, farms organically in high-altitude vineyards on galestro and alberese soils. These conditions bring freshness and aromatic lift to grapes that can often lean toward opulence elsewhere in Tuscany. Fermentation is with native yeasts, and ageing takes place in French oak barriques and tonneaux for 18 to 24 months, followed by extended bottle rest before release.

In the glass, it offers aromas of black cherry, cassis, graphite, violets, bay leaf and cedar. The palate is rich and layered, with ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, savoury herbs and fine, persistent tannins. There’s a linear, mineral backbone that gives structure and length, and a dry, mouthcoating finish that speaks of its hilltop origin.

Food pairing: ideal with bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino. Also a great match for grilled eggplant or porcini risotto.

Cellar potential: best from 2026 onward, with 15 to 20 years of ageing potential. It will gain complexity and elegance over time without losing its core of fruit and structure.
