Vines planted in 1847, which is pretty old. I don’t know how much oak is used in this wine, but I can say that it’s fairly discreet, which is welcomed (at least by me).Dark cherries and chocolate, some sweet biscuit spice, pralines, a little bit of earth, but carries fine dried rose perfume along with a subtle sniff of mint. Rich and flavoursome, all the melting and thick chocolate tannin, slightly toasty, a juicy cherry character to the acidity, and a dense and lavish finish of outstanding length, packed with silty tannin. If you love an intense, concentrated, but balanced Barossa Shiraz, then this is a winner.

Aromatically a real sense of balance pervades with intense, but pert and alive aromas of compote black berry fruit, dark chocolate and faint spice so often associated with Shiraz appearing early. On the palate the wine opens with an unctuous mouth filling attack, but still shows fresh and balanced and without any hint of heaviness. Primary dark fruit remains ever present and a super fine tannin frame pins in the fruit just enough to provide a clear target for the line of travel and ensures the fruit lingers long on the end of the palate. Tightly coiled in its youth and will benefit from a decant.

Vibrant and unctuous with creamy dark fruits, faint spice and subtle oak. Ripe cherries, dark chocolate and a fine tannin frame. Balanced, refreshing and layered with a long finish.

Made from the last four remaining rows of shiraz planted by Ann Jacobs in 1847. With the previous three vintages all scoring 99 points from James Halliday this wine has become more than a collectors item. It is highly sought after by both wine collectors and wine drinkers. Known for being delicate, balanced, refreshing and complex. With a controlled intensity and super fine tannins it encompasses everything we love about wines from the Southern end of the Barossa Valley
