2019 Andre Kientzler Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru, Alsace

The Kientzler family have been crafting wines in Ribeauvillé since 1699 and are widely regarded as one of Alsace's benchmark estates. André Kientzler helped establish the domaine's reputation for precise, long lived wines that faithfully reflect their origins, a philosophy that continues to guide the family today across some of the region's most celebrated vineyards.

Schoenenbourg is one of Alsace's most revered Grand Cru sites, rising above the village of Riquewihr on steep south and south east facing slopes. Its complex mosaic of marl, gypsum and limestone soils has long been recognised for producing Rieslings of extraordinary depth, power and longevity. Historically favoured by local nobility and monks, Schoenenbourg is a vineyard capable of creating wines that evolve gracefully for decades.

The colour is a brilliant pale gold with youthful green reflections. Aromas of preserved lemon, white peach and ripe grapefruit emerge first, followed by chamomile, acacia blossom and hints of wet stone. With air come layers of beeswax, spice and a subtle smoky complexity that speaks of the site's pedigree. The palate is concentrated yet beautifully poised, combining citrus and stone fruit richness with vibrant acidity and a powerful mineral backbone that carries through an exceptionally long finish.

This is a magnificent match for lobster with saffron butter, roast pork with crackling, turbot with beurre blanc, or wild mushroom and tarragon tart. While already impressive in its youth, the structure and balance suggest a drinking window extending comfortably through to 2040 and beyond.
