The Argiano 2019 Brunello di Montalcino comes out stronger than the previous 2018 and 2017 vintages, thanks to the precision and focus of its fruit flavors in this balanced vintage. It shows ample depth and volume, with sweet cherry and blackberry that fold into softly toasted spice and earth. Floral hints of lilac and iris make brief but poignant appearances. Velvety tannins and a nicely concentrated mid-weight palate give good staying power. This is a 120,000-bottle release.

Owned by Brazilian entrepreneur Andrè Santos Esteves and managed by the very talented Bernardino Sani, Argiano is on a roll. We are seeing some beautiful wines from this landmark estate located in the southwest quadrant of the appellation. I especially applaud the wines that are made with elegance in mind, like the exceptional 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Suolo. That wine represents an important departure from a heavily oak-driven wine such as the blended 2021 Solengo.

Exciting to say the least in its terse and classic sensory profile reminiscent of plums, almonds, mixed white flowers of magnolias, gardenias and hawthorn, lemon peel and vetiver. In the background, the "crispness" of the matrix is provided by nuances of bergamot, lime, cassis and raspberry. Medium-full body, perfectly ripe and well polymerised tannins and a finish that has class to spare. Better since 2026.

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino from Tuscany is a renowned expression of Brunello, crafted under the skilled guidance of winemaker Bernardino Sani. With a deep respect for the heritage of Brunello di Montalcino, Sani brings a blend of traditional winemaking practices and modern precision to Argiano’s wines. Situated in Montalcino’s southwest, Argiano’s vineyards benefit from warm days and cool nights, allowing Sangiovese grapes to ripen slowly, developing concentration and complexity.

This Brunello di Montalcino is known for its aromatic profile, with vibrant notes of cherry, blackberry, and plum, complemented by subtle hints of leather, tobacco, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is full-bodied and elegant, showcasing ripe fruit, fine tannins, and balanced acidity. Aging in both large oak barrels and smaller French barriques adds depth and structure, leading to a long, sophisticated finish with hints of spice and earthiness.

Ideal for pairing with traditional Tuscan dishes like wild boar ragu, roasted meats, and aged cheeses, this Brunello is both versatile and food-friendly. Its structure and depth also make it an excellent candidate for aging, promising even more complexity over time.
