With fruit from Neive, the Cantina del Pino 2019 Barbaresco Albesani is soft and silky in texture, offering a very graceful and detail-oriented presentation. There is cherry, sweet fruit, blue flower and almond. This wine reminds me of an old-school Barbaresco that might have been made two decades ago. Sadly, only 3,000 bottles were made. Drink: 2024-2038

A single-vineyard Barbaresco that showcases the elegance and complexity of Nebbiolo grown in one of the region’s most revered crus. Crafted with meticulous care, this wine is a testament to Cantina del Pino’s dedication to expressing the unique character of the Albesani terroir.
The nose opens with captivating aromas of red cherries, wild strawberries, and dried roses, layered with hints of licorice, leather, and a subtle touch of anise. Earthy undertones of forest floor, truffle, and a whisper of spice add depth and intrigue.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity creating a harmonious structure. Flavors of ripe red fruits are intertwined with savory notes of tobacco, dried herbs, and a touch of tar, reflecting the classic profile of Nebbiolo. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of finesse and power.
The Albesani vineyard, located in Neive, is known for its south-facing slopes and calcareous clay soils, which provide the ideal conditions for Nebbiolo to thrive. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using traditional methods, followed by aging in large oak casks to allow the wine to develop complexity and balance while preserving its vibrant fruit character.
This Barbaresco pairs beautifully with dishes such as braised beef, wild game, or mushroom risotto. It also complements hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino. While approachable after several years of cellaring, the Albesani has the structure and depth to age gracefully for 15–20 years, rewarding patience with remarkable evolution.
