Dark ruby red with light purple reflections. Complex on the nose, iron, dark cherry fruit, rich plum, some lovage. On the palate lots of salt and juice, complex, comes in many layers, with finely-meshed tannins, deep and with full splendour, keeps coming back, big.

100 points Falstaff

In my mind, this is the wine that best represents the Casanova di Neri house style. With 30 months of aging in tonneaux, it shows enormous richness and texture, and the stellar fruit quality appears with more primary elegance compared to the more expensive Cerretalto that is released with an extra year of aging. That dynamic is especially pronounced in a comparison of the 2019 and 2018 vintages. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a dark vein of toasted spice, black fruit, ink, blackberry compote, licorice and star anise. Dark as night, it is exceptionally well crafted with a robust delivery of concentrated fruit and solid tannic structure. You can count on excellent cellar potential, or at a minimum, serve it with a classic steak. Production is exactly 69,696 bottles.

97 points Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Black cherries with violets and other flowers on the nose. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a juicy finish. Needs time to soften. Give it three to five years of bottle age. Better after 2025.

96 points James Suckling

Casanova di Neri has been one of Montalcino's leading estates since Giovanni Neri founded the winery in 1971. Today, his son Giacomo continues the family's commitment to exceptional Sangiovese, producing some of Tuscany's most collectable wines. Tenuta Nuova, first released from the 1993 vintage, is a modern Brunello classic, admired for its remarkable concentration, elegance and ability to age.

The vineyards lie in the southeastern part of Montalcino, where the Neri family recognised the potential of land previously considered unsuitable for fine wine. The outstanding 2019 vintage delivered beautifully ripe fruit, vibrant acidity and impressive structure, creating a Tenuta Nuova with all the qualities of a great Brunello.

Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. Black cherry, ripe raspberry and dark plum mingle with violet, dried rose petals, liquorice and sweet tobacco. The palate is powerful yet beautifully composed, with concentrated red and black fruit, finely grained tannins and wonderful freshness. Notes of cedar, balsamic herbs, crushed stone and savoury spice carry through an exceptionally long finish.

Try it with slow braised beef cheeks and porcini, handmade pappardelle with wild mushroom ragù, or roasted eggplant with lentils and aged pecorino. Decant generously if opening in its youth.

Cellaring: Drink 2028 to 2048+. The balance, concentration and structure of 2019 make this a superb candidate for extended cellaring.
