Trophy Best Red Wine Hunter Valley Wine Show 2021 and 2022

Trophy Best Shiraz Hunter Valley Wine Show 2026

Deep ruby core into a rich purple rim. Dark berry, black mineral, and cured meat aromas. Deep fruit with blackberry and iron tones. There’s a depth and intensity that is balanced by both fine tannins and a hint of freshening acidity, a wine of tension and persistence that will cellar for many years. Drink to 2035.

95 points Stuart Knox for The Real Review, February 2026

A sumptuous interpretation of a warm year. Lots of extract, complemented by oak that, while still unresolved, should find its place in time. Blue and black fruits. A core of raspberry liqueur. Spice, sassafras and Hunter earth, driving long. Bury this and believe. Drink to 2033.

95 points Ned Goodwin for Halliday Wine Companion, August 2022

This premium Hunter Shiraz is a great example of the warm and dry 2019 season that gave the local growers low yields but excellent quality. The Limited Release is a blend of parcels selected across the three estate vineyards and only released from excellent Shiraz vintages.

Give this generous time with air if opening before its tenth birthday. The wine is well suited for further, extended cellaring.

About this producer

A relatively recent addition to Hunter Valley, de Iuliis has gradually grown from its 1987 beginnings when Joss and Anna de Iuliis purchased a then cattle station off Lovedale Road in Pokolbin. After several years of soil regeneration work their first Semillon and Chardonnay vines were planted in 1999.

Today, second generation Mike de Iuliis leads the work at the winery as well as the three estate vineyards in Lovedale, Pokolbin and Rothbury. The varietal mix includes Hunter Valley classics Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Shiraz, complemented by Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the more recently planted Pecorino and Montepulciano, both native to the Abruzzo region of Italy where the de Iuliis family originates.
