Plenty of perfume of alpine herb, fennel, cherry essence, spice and the like. Medium-bodied, finely etched, spiced strawberry, orange rind and cherry, freshness and dusty tannin grip, and a cool long finish of excellent definition and length. Very nice indeed.

Fetherston Estate Nebbiolo from Yarra Valley is an elegant and complex expression of this renowned Italian grape variety, adapted to the cool-climate conditions of Victoria’s Yarra Valley. While Nebbiolo is traditionally associated with the famous wines of Barolo and Barbaresco in Italy’s Piedmont region, Yarra Valley’s temperate climate and well-drained soils offer an excellent environment for growing this finicky variety. Fetherston Estate, known for its attention to detail and sustainability in the vineyard, produces a Nebbiolo that reflects both the varietal's traditional character and the nuances of its Australian terroir.
The nose typically reveals aromas of dried roses, red cherry, and tart cranberry, with earthy notes of leather, tar, and spice—aromas that are hallmarks of the variety. On the palate, it shows red fruit flavors like sour cherry and raspberry, balanced by Nebbiolo’s signature high acidity and firm tannins. These tannins give the wine structure and depth, making it an age-worthy red that can develop further complexity over time. Hints of dried herbs, tobacco, and anise add further layers of flavor, leading to a long, savory finish.
Nebbiolo pairs exceptionally well with rich, hearty dishes, particularly those with strong flavors like braised meats, truffles, and aged cheeses. Its tannic backbone and acidity also make it an ideal match for Italian cuisine, including risottos, pasta with ragù, and mushroom-based dishes.
