Praline, green apples, wet stones, lemons and white grapefruit on the nose. White chocolate and salted caramel, too. It’s full-bodied, concentrated and full of flavor, with creamy and buttery layers balanced by vibrant acidity.

The 2019 Chardonnay Yamhill-Carlton is perfumed with opulent fruit, ripe melon, pine, and delicate oak spice. It has a rich texture, although it has tension and does not feel heavy at all. The palate is fresh with ripe green apple, lime blossom, and delicate oak spice. Drink 2024-2034.

For those seeking evidence of Oregon's cool-climate character, the 2019 vintage serves as compelling proof. While there were occasional warmer days, the defining feature of this vintage was its consistently cool days and nights. This unique climate characteristic extended the growing season, allowing grapes to develop complexity without a significant increase in skin thickness. The 2019 vintage is undeniably exceptional, destined to be remembered for its wine's remarkable power and longevity.

Hand-harvested in the crisp dawn air of early autumn, the Chardonnay was quickly brought into the winery for gentle, whole-cluster pressing. Allowing Gran Moraine to capture the freshest and most pristine juice. This was then transferred to Burgundian barrels, 15% of which were new. There the juice underwent a lengthy 12 month long natural fermentation. During this time, we utilized monthly battonage. After 16 months in barrel, the wine was fully racked to an outdoor stainless steel tank and left to mature in the cold Northwest winter for natural stabilisation and coalescence.

The 2019 Chardonnay serves as a testament to what makes this region exceptional. It possesses a saline quality and is imbued with aromatics of freshly cut citrus, underripe melon, and curry leaf. The palate is both gravelly and svelte, featuring a piercing acidity that never feels out of place but instead serves as a constant reminder of its promising future.
