Sugarcane cork. Some Italian wine producers love them, some are scathing, Some love DIAM, while others are scathing of that too. Italians!
Liquorice root, a clay-like earthiness, cherry and raspberry, baking spices, bright and fragrant and kind of juicy, yet serious. Gentle grip of tannin through cherry and red fruits, classic sort of Nebbiolo really, with succulence and a light brick dusting of tannin on the finish. Strawberries too, some ‘mineral’ feel. A baby Barolo for sure. Excellent. No doubt 2019 is a top vintage.

Luigi Vico’s wines come from his family-heirloom vineyard in Serralunga. With his ancestors having farmed the site, providing fruit for other estates since the early 1900s, Luigi decided to return to making wines under the Vico name. Assisted by famed neighbour, Davide Rosso, these wines are classic, yet precise and approachable. They are both new and entirely timeless. These bottlings have been a joy to discover.
