2019 Neudorf Tiritiri Rosé, Nelson

The Neudorf Tiritiri Rosé from Nelson is a delicate, refreshing expression of this coastal New Zealand region, made by one of the country’s most admired family-owned producers. Neudorf Vineyards, founded by Tim and Judy Finn in 1978 and now run by their daughter Rosie and winemaker Todd Stevens, has built a reputation for crafting wines of purity and finesse that reflect their maritime-influenced terroir. The Tiritiri label, meaning “to cultivate” in Te Reo Māori, focuses on wines that are vibrant, approachable and true to place – the rosé being a perfect example.

The fruit is sourced from sustainably farmed estate vineyards, with Pinot Noir often forming the backbone of the blend, occasionally supported by other red varietals to enhance perfume and texture. Careful pressing and cool fermentation preserve delicacy and brightness, while minimal intervention ensures clarity and authenticity.

In the glass it shines a pale salmon pink with coral hues. The bouquet is lifted and expressive, offering wild strawberry, redcurrant and pomegranate layered with citrus zest, rose petal and a hint of savoury spice. The palate is dry and elegant, showing juicy red fruits balanced by crisp acidity and a fine mineral edge. A subtle textural weight adds interest, while the finish is clean, savoury and refreshing.
