True to form, this is ethereal, lighter framed and a lovely drink. Full of raspberry leaves, just ripe blackberries, pops of spice and the distinct Margaret River fragrance – it’s a native bush character and very pleasing. Lithe tannins and a gentleness across the palate make this ready to enjoy now. Drink by 2030.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot L.T.Cf. is medium bodied and distinctly silky, but this is what we have come to expect from this cuvée. There is tobacco leaf, bay leaf, raspberry bramble, cassis, saltbush, a lick of licorice and layers of dried exotic spice. It's elegant, moving to ethereal, a rare descriptor for Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a "slick" sheen to the tannins, glossy. I'm always reminded of that when I taste it. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

From the gravelly loams of Wilyabrup in Margaret River, Pierro has long been regarded as one of Australia’s most quietly revered estates, crafting wines of polish, longevity and unmistakable regional character. Founded by Dr Mike Peterkin in the late 1970s, the winery helped define the region’s Bordeaux inspired red blends through meticulous vineyard management and a patient, detail driven approach in the cellar. L.T.Cf Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot reflects this philosophy beautifully, drawing on mature vines to deliver structure, depth and elegant fruit expression shaped by maritime influence.

A deep garnet crimson sits confidently in the glass. Aromas unfold in refined layers of blackcurrant, dark plum and blackberry intertwined with cedar, bay leaf, graphite and subtle tobacco spice. There is a composed sophistication to the bouquet that signals both pedigree and ageing potential.

The palate is medium to full bodied and beautifully structured, delivering concentrated cassis and black cherry fruit framed by firm yet polished tannins and vibrant natural acidity. Nuances of dark chocolate, dried herbs and gentle oak influence build through the mid palate, leading to a long, mineral tinged finish that feels both powerful and graceful. This classic Margaret River blend will reward cellaring over twelve to eighteen years as notes of leather, truffle and cigar box complexity gradually emerge.

Picture a slow roasted lamb shoulder pulled apart at the table, charred eggplant, warm bread and olive oil soaking into linen. Maybe Talking Heads Remain in Light spinning quietly, or Khruangbin setting a late night groove. The room feels warm, generous, slightly hypnotic. One glass becomes another and the bottle empties in that beautifully unplanned way.
