This is an incredible new wine with very refined tannins that spread across the palate and melt into the wine to give a unique mouthfeel. It’s full-bodied yet agile and weightless. Bark and strawberry. Drinkable and very deep. Sophisticated. Tiny production. From glacial marine soil with a hint of schist. Only 105 cases. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Perched above the shimmering waters of Lake Wānaka, Rippon is one of New Zealand’s most iconic biodynamic estates, with the Mills family farming this remarkable land for generations. Mature Vine Pinot Noir from Lolo’s Block comes from some of the oldest plantings on the property, rooted in schist laden soils and shaped by Central Otago’s dramatic alpine climate. The 2019 vintage delivered beautifully balanced conditions, allowing the fruit to achieve both depth and aromatic lift, capturing Rippon’s signature combination of wild energy and refined detail.

A translucent ruby garnet hue glows in the glass with captivating clarity. Aromas rise in expressive layers of dark cherry, wild raspberry and plum intertwined with dried thyme, rose petal and a savoury note of forest floor and crushed rock. There is a sense of quiet intensity to the bouquet, reflecting both vine age and the unique lakeside terroir.

The palate is textured and finely structured, delivering vibrant red and dark berry fruit framed by silky tannins and lively natural acidity. Flavours of pomegranate, spice and mineral nuance unfold gradually, leading to a long, resonant finish that feels both grounded and elegant. Built for patient cellaring, this Pinot Noir will evolve gracefully over twelve to fifteen years, developing layers of truffle, dried herbs and autumnal complexity.

A superb partner for flavour driven yet refined dishes, it shines with roast duck and cherry glaze, grilled venison, mushroom risotto or herb roasted lamb. Rippon Lolo’s Block Mature Vine Pinot Noir captures the soulful beauty of Central Otago, perfect for contemplative evenings, generous tables and those moments when a wine feels deeply connected to the land it comes from.
