Deep crimson with fruit aromas of blackberry, black cherry and macerated plums with hints of fruitcake spice, licorice, sage, citrus blossom, cherry pie, earth and vanillin oak. Weighty and fruit-pure with fine granitic tannins and a meaty aspect flowing in on the palate, finishing long with a tail of Christmas cake spice, black-fruit compote and softly spoken oak tones of polished leather and vanilla.

Barr-Eden Estate Avenue to Gold Shiraz from Eden Valley is a refined and site-driven expression of high-altitude Shiraz, grown at the top of Mengler Hill where the Barossa meets Eden Valley. This wine is all about elegance, detail, and structure—a far cry from the heavier Shiraz styles of the Barossa floor. It reflects the unique growing conditions of the elevated eastern edge of the Barossa region, where cool nights and lean soils yield wines of restraint and longevity.
The Avenue to Gold vineyard sits among some of the highest Shiraz plantings in the region. With a mix of ancient soils, constant breezes, and a long growing season, this site consistently produces fruit with lifted aromatics, fine tannins, and natural balance. The result is a wine that offers both concentration and finesse, with great cellaring potential.
In the glass, it opens with violet, blueberry, and plum aromas layered over graphite, aniseed, and crushed herbs. The palate is medium to full bodied with a cool core of dark fruit, savoury spice, and beautifully integrated oak. Tannins are finely structured and mineral driven, carrying the wine into a long, composed finish.
This is modern Eden Valley Shiraz—restrained, age worthy, and deeply expressive of place. Ideal with roast lamb, duck with cherry glaze, or grilled eggplant with miso.
