From a single site in the Eden Valley planted with 80+ year old vines; 20% whole bunches, aged for 12 months in French oak hogsheads. Crimson in the glass with aromas of red plum and berries, a whiff of exotic spice and a liminal glance of mataro garrigue – it’s an earthy, sexy roasted game meats kind of thing. The fruit presence and flow on the palate is bang on, savoury pure and true with chalky tannin and a brisk cadence, finishing long with impressive balance. Proof that mataro is capable of great things in the right hands.
