Old-vine sourcing. Made to a traditional taste, with an admirable track record of ageability. Unabashedly full bodied. Black fruit allusions, fennel seed, menthol, smoked salumi and astringent oak tannins that feel almost green at this nascent stage. Yet as the wine opens, the seeping fruit reveals itself to the point of a plush, boysenberry pie sweetness. Far from my cup of tea, yet a very good wine for the style.

Shiraz is a great tradition in McLaren Vale, dating back to the 1850's. Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole that was planted in 1919 and the first wine released in 1989.
Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole that was planted in either the 19th century or early 20th century - some records indicate as early as 1860. The first Lloyd Reserve wine was released in 1989. The soil and roots are extremely deep and generally no irrigation is required. The wine is matured in French oak for approximately 18 months and then receives 18+ months in bottle before release.
