Black purple. Where is the nose? Discreet at first but then so much starts to emerge. It is as if the detail is submerged in the volume. I can find more on the palate than in the bouquet, a question of La Romanée’s reserve. Some ripe apple, some blackberry, some minerals, but just too backward to give everything up. Ten minutes in the glass and it starts, this is really very fine indeed, but just as I start to feel the glow, time is up! I could have spent as long again trying to tease out all the nuances. Another tutorial needed, I fear.

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a very recent wine estate since created at the beginning of the year 2000 by Count Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, agricultural engineer and oenologist, with the aim of taking over the running of those few parcels of vineyards remaining in the hands of the family. But it is in fact a very old estate as it has over 200 years of family tradition at the service of the vines and wines of Burgundy in general and Vosne-Romanée in particular.
