Domaine du Gros Noré Bandol Rouge Organic from Provence is a magnificent, sun-soaked expression of Mourvèdre, capturing the wild beauty and authenticity of Bandol’s rugged coastal hills. Crafted by Alain Pascal at his organically farmed estate in La Cadière-d’Azur, this wine reflects both the power and grace that define the region’s finest reds. The domaine is renowned for producing wines of purity and strength without compromise, shaped by limestone soils, sea breezes, and traditional hands-on winemaking.
The blend is dominated by Mourvèdre, supported by small portions of Grenache and Cinsault that add perfume and suppleness. The vines, many over fifty years old, grow on steep, south-facing terraces that maximise sunlight and mineral expression. The fruit is hand picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, and aged for around eighteen months in large, old oak foudres — a method that allows the wine’s natural texture and complexity to unfold slowly and gracefully.
In the glass it shows deep garnet with violet highlights. The aroma is complex and evocative, offering black cherry, plum, wild herbs, black olive, leather, and hints of dried lavender and spice. The palate is full bodied and deeply structured, with layers of dark fruit, savoury earth, and fine, chalky tannins. Despite its richness, the wine remains poised and balanced, with a long, mineral finish that reflects both the limestone terroir and the Mediterranean climate.
It is an exceptional match for roast lamb, beef stew, grilled game, or truffle-infused dishes, and it will age effortlessly for twenty years or more, developing notes of tobacco, forest floor, and dried fruit.
