The edition number on the label represents the number of years since the wine’s first release (1999). The reason for this, is that the blend’s five autochthonous (‘cinque autoctoni’) grapes actually come from two regions, Puglia (townships Sava) and Abruzzo (townships Colonnella, Ortona and San Marzano).
The name "Cinque Autoctoni" refers to the five indigenous grape varieties used in the blend: Montepulciano, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera. These varieties are sourced from select vineyards in Abruzzo and Puglia, where the unique terroir of each region contributes to the wine’s complexity and character. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels, allowing the flavors to integrate and develop over time, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and balanced.
Very deep garnet red. Very intense and persistent with notes of cherry and blackcurrant, herbs, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa, licorice and hints of mineral. Great structure, good balance between alcohol and freshness, velvety tannins, very persistent with a long finish, ready to drink, or can well be aged for long. Excellent with rich first courses, red meat and with medium and long seasoned cheese.
Fantini Farnese Edizione Cinque Autoctoni is a red wine that embodies the best of Italian winemaking. This bold and full-bodied wine is a blend of five indigenous grape varietals: Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera. Each grape brings its unique flavor profile that results in a distinctive and complex wine. The nose hints at black cherries, cassis, plums, and chocolate. The palate is rich and velvety, with flavors of dark fruits, spices, and cedar wood. The wine has a long and satisfying finish, balancing acidity, tannins, and alcohol. Fantini Farnese Edizione Cinque Autoctoni is perfect for pairing with rich and savory dishes.
