Barolo Ravera di Monforte is a wild, exotic wine. Iron, game, chalk, white pepper, incense, dried herbs and macerated cherry give the Ravera tons of aromatic and flavour complexity.
Ferdinando Principiano owns and farms 20 hectares of vineyards in Monforte d’Alba in Piemonte’s Langhe Hills. He started in 1993 with 7 hectares from his father and grandfather. He made a profound change in his estate twenty years ago by creating more biodiversity in the vineyards and surrounds, as well as starting a more hands-off approach in the cellar to find a terroir signature for his wines. He works in a biodynamic way and crafts very fine, almost old-school wines with very long submerged cap maceration. The oak regime has changed dramatically over the years with mostly large and medium seasoned oak being used.
