Attractive aromas of redcurrants and plums with some chocolate, follow through to a medium body, with round tannins and a juicy finish. Soft and open. Crunchy acidity at the end. Drink now.

G d’Estournel comes from the team behind Cos d’Estournel, but instead of chasing power or heavy extraction, this is built around freshness, drinkability and a more contemporary feel. Sourced from vineyards in the northern Médoc, the 2020 captures plenty of classic Bordeaux character while keeping things open and approachable.
The nose feels immediately inviting. Blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum roll through first, followed by cedar, dried herbs and a touch of graphite. There’s a softness to the aromatics, but also enough savoury detail to remind you this is very much Médoc.
It settles into an easy rhythm, dark fruit wrapped in smooth tannins with just enough structure to keep things moving. Cabernet brings cassis and that pencil shaving edge, while Merlot rounds things out with fleshier fruit and texture. Hints of spice, cocoa and tobacco leaf build gently through the finish.
This is exactly the sort of Bordeaux that shines around the dinner table. A proper steak frites would be perfect, but it’s equally good with smoky lentils, mushroom bourguignon or roast eggplant with black olive and thyme. Hard cheeses and charcuterie also feel right at home here.
Already drinking beautifully now with a bit of air, though it has enough balance to hold comfortably over the next five to eight years.
There’s a relaxed confidence here, a Bordeaux that delivers plenty of character without demanding too much ceremony.
