Expressive yet refined aromas of nectarine, bosc pear, and peach blossoms followed by panna cotta, and spearmint with subtle smoke and slate notes. Medium-bodied and bright acidity with a seductive mineral finish. Very precisely framed wine that shows wonderful finesse and vibrancy. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Altenberg de Bergheim is the jewel in the Gustave Lorentz crown, a Grand Cru hillside that rises above the village of Bergheim where the family has been based since 1836. Over six generations the Lorentz family has shaped one of Alsace’s most respected estates, steadily moving toward organic farming and precise, site led winemaking. Altenberg’s complex mix of marl, limestone and sandstone gives Riesling both power and mineral backbone, while its warm, protected exposure allows full ripeness without sacrificing acidity. The philosophy is to let the Grand Cru speak clearly, with structure and longevity at the forefront.

Grapes are harvested at optimal balance to capture aromatic intensity and depth. Fermentation is carried out carefully to preserve purity, typically in stainless steel or traditional large vessels, avoiding overt oak influence. Extended ageing on fine lees adds breadth and complexity while maintaining a taut mineral spine. The aim is harmony between richness and precision.

Pale gold in colour, the aromas open with ripe lemon, peach and mandarin layered with white flowers, crushed stone and subtle spice. The palate is structured and concentrated, with citrus and stone fruit wrapped in vibrant acidity and a firm mineral core. Flavours unfold in layers, finishing long and persistent with a saline, stony edge.

It pairs beautifully with lobster, rich seafood, pork dishes and Alsatian cuisine. While already impressive for its depth, it will cellar confidently for fifteen to twenty years or more, developing honeyed, smoky and petrol complexity.

This is Grand Cru Alsace Riesling in full expression, powerful, mineral and built for decades.
