Le Monde Refosco from Friuli is a dark, spicy red with a distinctly northern Italian soul—earthy, vibrant, and full of personality. Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso (its full name) is one of Friuli’s native treasures, known for its deep colour, wild aromatics, and naturally high acidity. In the hands of Le Monde, it becomes something both traditional and polished, with loads of flavour and real regional character.
Grown on alluvial soils near the Veneto border, the grapes benefit from a mix of Alpine and Adriatic influences—warm days, cool nights, and long ripening seasons. Winemaking is focused on preserving the grape’s natural structure while softening its rustic edge. Fermentation is in stainless steel with gentle maceration, followed by time in oak to round out the tannins and build depth.
In the glass, it’s deep ruby with violet hues. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, wild herbs, and a hint of black pepper lead into a palate that’s savoury, medium-bodied, and firm but juicy. There’s plenty of freshness, with notes of plum, bitter chocolate, and a subtle mineral kick on the finish. It’s got grip, but also flow—a Refosco that walks the line between rustic charm and modern finesse.
Best with slow-braised beef, grilled sausages, wild mushroom risotto or aged Asiago. If you’re into reds with texture, a bit of spice, and an off-the-beaten-path vibe, this one’s for you.
