Redcurrant, sweet spice, mint and creamy vanillin oak characters combine to attractive effect here. In fact, take the lush, soft, come-hither face of this and underpin with it firm, dry, slightly stringy tannin and that's pretty much the wine in its entirety, though freshening acidity also plays a key role. It's another good release.

Coonawarra might be synonymous with Cabernet, but producers like Majella have long shown that Shiraz can be just as compelling when grown on those famous terra rossa soils. The Lynn family established Majella in the heart of the strip and have built a reputation for consistency and quiet quality, with Bruce Gregory guiding the winemaking for decades. The combination of limestone rich soils and a cooler maritime influenced climate gives their Shiraz a more refined, medium bodied feel compared to the heavier styles further north.
Ripe plum and blackberry sit alongside dark cherry, with layers of black pepper, spice and a gentle touch of mocha. There is a savoury thread running through it, a hint of earth and dried herbs that adds complexity and keeps the fruit in check. Tannins are fine and well integrated, giving structure without weight, while the finish carries a subtle lift that feels distinctly Coonawarra rather than overtly rich.
Drinking well now, though it will comfortably age over the next eight to twelve years, picking up more savoury and earthy detail as it evolves. It sits in that versatile space where it can handle both casual drinking and something a little more considered.
Great with chargrilled lamb chops, slow cooked beef with herbs, or even a smoky eggplant dish with Middle Eastern spices. It is a wine that works just as well at a relaxed barbecue as it does at a more serious dinner table.
