Marc Brédif has been a cornerstone of Vouvray since 1893, with extensive cellars carved deep into the limestone tuffeau, perfect for slow, graceful ageing. Now under the stewardship of Baron de Ladoucette, the house continues to champion Chenin Blanc in its many forms. This Museum Release comes from those historic caves, held back to show what a few extra years can do to Vouvray’s naturally high acidity and layered fruit.
The 2020 sits in a beautifully expressive place. Ripe apple, quince and pear lead, followed by honey, chamomile and a light touch of lanolin that hints at early development. There’s a gentle richness through the palate, but it’s the acidity that defines the wine, keeping everything lifted and giving it a long, clean finish with a faint mineral edge. It feels composed and quietly complex, offering more depth than a young release without losing its freshness.
This is where Chenin really comes into its own at the table. Roast pork with apple and fennel is a natural fit, as is a classic chicken and mushroom dish where the wine’s acidity cuts through the richness. It also works beautifully with seafood that carries a bit of texture, think scallops with a light butter sauce or a simple crab dish with citrus.
Drink now and over the next 5 to 8 years as it continues to build honeyed, nutty complexity while holding that bright line.
