Segni di Langa is the project of Gianluca Colombo, a farmer and winemaker in the Langhe. Gianluca aims to produce wines that speak of the grape, vineyard and vintage: nothing else. He farms organically and makes wines with little to no additions in the cellar. In 2014, Gianluca was the Gambelli Award winning Best Young Italian Winemaker. In addition to being a small winery, Segni di Langa is also a Bed and Breakfast run by Gianluca's wife, Alessandra.
The Segni di Langa Nebbiolo d'Alba is made from 100% Nebbiolo grown on a single vineyard in Roddi on clay and limestone soils. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, then aged for 10 months in old barrels and tonneaux before bottling without clarification or filtration. Light ruby color with intoxicating aromas of red berries and flowers. The palate delivers structure and depth with energy and vibrancy. Enjoy with meat filled pastas with mushrooms.
Nebbiolo d'Alba comes from a vineyard located in Roddi, a short distance from Verduno, at an altitude of 270 m. Old vineyard, facing south-southeast, with different biopypes, including the rose'.
The grapes are harvested only when they are sensorially ready ; the vinification does not follow rules but is interpreted from year to year adapting to the grape. I tend to work with a submerged hat, of very variable duration; the refinement, given the reduced volumes, takes place in barrels of 500 liters and bottling the summer following the harvest. Soils of Langa, rich in limestone make it a very aromatic and structured wine.
