Dureuil's 2020 Rully 1er Cru Meix Cadot is showing brilliantly in bottle, bursting with aromas of lime, crisp Anjou pear, stone fruit, white flowers and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, this is more chiseled and precise than I perceived just after bottling, concluding with an electric finish.
Le Meix Cadot is the largest of Rully’s 1er Crus and sits on a mini plateau east of the village. Dureuil-Janthial controls 1.71-hectares (planted in 1980) in a very chalky part of the vineyard, perfect for Chardonnay.
This area is enclosed by walls (i.e. it’s a ‘clos’). Again, the soils are clay-limestone and are worked organically. This has more flesh than the Rully villages, but it remains earthy, rocky and chalky. With some time in bottle it will blossom but it is already a fabulous value white Burgundy.
