This remarkable Alsace pinot noir is deep and dark with stacks of black cherries and red beets, plus a delicate smokiness. On the generous yet focused palate it manages to be extremely concentrated but super elegant, like a great Chambolle-Musigny from Burgundy. The very fine tannins build beautifully at the very long, refined finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

In the village of Wettolsheim just outside Colmar, Domaine Albert Mann has emerged as one of Alsace’s most visionary estates, redefining what Pinot Noir from the region can be. The domaine, run by brothers Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé, farms biodynamically with an intense focus on low yields, old vines and precise vineyard expression. Les Saintes Claires comes from limestone rich slopes that bring both aromatic delicacy and structural tension, resulting in a Pinot Noir that feels finely chiselled yet deeply evocative.

A luminous ruby red glows in the glass with a beautifully transparent edge. Aromas unfold with wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry layered with rose petal, cinnamon spice and a subtle savoury note of forest floor and crushed stone. There is an elegance and lift to the bouquet that draws comparisons with fine Burgundy, while still retaining a distinctive Alsatian brightness.

The palate is silky and finely structured, delivering vibrant red berry fruit, pomegranate and cherry skin framed by ultra fine tannins and lively acidity. A mineral thread runs through the wine, giving it precision and length rather than weight. The finish lingers gracefully with hints of dried herbs and gentle spice. This Pinot Noir will reward careful cellaring over ten to fifteen years as truffle, autumn leaves and floral complexity deepen.

A natural partner for refined yet comforting dishes, it shines with roast duck and cherry jus, veal cutlets with herbs, mushroom risotto or grilled salmon. Albert Mann Les Saintes Claires Pinot Noir captures the evolving story of Alsace red wine, offering collectors and enthusiasts a wine of finesse, purity and quietly compelling depth.
