Good depth of red with a tint of purple and the bouquet has a wide spectrum of spice aromas overlying fruits more red than black. There's cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, smoke and background pepper and clove. Intense flavour, elegant and finely structured, the tannins plentiful but balanced and fine-grained, the finish is long and harmonious. More Northern Rhône-ish than most Pyrenees shiraz and not just singular pepperiness. A delicious wine: a shiraz for pinot lovers. (Single vineyard nera Avoca. 15% whole bunches, 25% new oak. A partnership between Altera Terra and Hesket Estate.) 30 JUN 2023 Drink 2023–2036
