2021 Between Five Bells Red Blend, Geelong

A deliberately unconventional blend that captures the creative edge of Geelong, this wine reflects Between Five Bells’ love of experimentation and drinkability. The project brings together parcels from cool Victorian vineyards and treats blending as an art form rather than a formula. The red blend shifts with vintage, but the guiding idea stays constant, bright fruit, savoury texture and a wine built for the table. Geelong’s maritime climate provides natural freshness and fine tannin, keeping the style lively rather than heavy.

Winemaking leans toward minimal handling and gentle extraction, allowing the individual components to keep their personality. The aim is energy and balance, creating a wine that feels layered yet easygoing.

In the glass it shows a vibrant ruby with purple flashes. Aromas open with red cherry, plum and raspberry, followed by spice, dried herbs and a faint earthy note. There is an immediate sense of brightness and lift.

The palate is medium bodied and juicy, with red and dark fruit wrapped in soft tannins and fresh acidity. Flavours echo the nose, berry fruit and gentle spice, finishing smooth and mouthwatering. The texture is supple and flowing, inviting casual drinking without losing interest.

It pairs effortlessly with pizza, charcuterie, roast chicken and relaxed shared plates. Best enjoyed young for its vibrancy and charm.
