The Fattoria I Collazzi Rosso di Toscana Libertà IGT is a vibrant and polished Tuscan red that reflects the estate’s long history and its dedication to producing wines of both elegance and accessibility. Fattoria I Collazzi, located just outside Florence in the hills of Impruneta, is a historic property with origins dating back to the 16th century, once designed by Michelangelo himself. Today, the Marchi family oversees the estate, blending tradition with modern winemaking to create wines that are true to Tuscan character yet crafted with international appeal.

Libertà is made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, varieties that thrive in the clay-limestone soils of Collazzi’s hillside vineyards. The estate’s southwest-facing exposure ensures optimal ripening, while the cool breezes from the Tuscan hills preserve freshness. The 2021 vintage (typical for this cuvée) shows generous fruit and supple tannins, reflecting careful vineyard management and a winemaking approach that favours fruit expression over heavy oak.

In the glass it is a deep ruby red. Aromatically it opens with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum, supported by hints of violet, sweet spice and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, silky and approachable, with juicy red and black fruits balanced by smooth tannins and a lively acid backbone. Subtle oak ageing adds roundness and gentle spice, while the finish is long, fresh and harmonious.

Food pairings emphasise its versatility: Tuscan classics such as pappardelle with wild boar ragù, grilled Florentine steak, or wood-fired pizza with cured meats. It also pairs beautifully with vegetarian dishes like eggplant parmigiana, lentil stew or mushroom risotto. Best enjoyed within 5 to 8 years of vintage, it offers both immediacy and the ability to develop savoury complexity in the cellar.
