2021 Fox Creek Old Vine Shiraz, McLaren Vale

From vines planted in 1910; 18 months in French oak hogsheads. This is an expansive, opulent style, with liqueur-like dark fruit notes, coffee grounds, plum sauce, chocolate, clove, date, tar and anise. It’s rich and viscous, with iron and bay leaf notes adding some savoury interest, finishing with a molasses-like flourish. It’s a powerhouse expression no doubt fine-tuned for a firmly loyal demographic.

Intense deep red with purple hues. A dusty concentrated nose  delivering both red and black fruits of red cherry, ripe raspberry, black cherry, plum and olive over milk chocolate, dried fig and cinnamon.
Red fruits of bright cherry and mulberry combine with darker fruits of blackberry and blackcurrant that deliver a rich, concentrated palate. The intense fruit overlays a complex creamy mid palate of clove, lightly roasted nuts and subtle toast that leads onto a balanced but structured finish framed with fine integrated tannins and balanced natural acidity.
