Giesen Limited Edition Organic Pinot Noir from Marlborough is a finely crafted cool climate red that highlights the growing sophistication of New Zealand’s South Island Pinot Noir. Made entirely from organically certified fruit, this limited release captures the purity and vibrancy of the region, with a focus on texture, aromatic lift and a sense of place.

Sourced from Giesen’s organic vineyards in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough, the wine benefits from clay-rich soils, cool nights and long sunshine hours. These conditions allow Pinot Noir to develop bright fruit character while retaining fine tannins and natural acidity. The Giesen brothers, who have built a reputation for innovation and quality, have embraced organic farming here not just as a label, but as a philosophy that enhances vineyard health and fruit expression.

Winemaking is deliberately hands-off. Grapes are handpicked and cold-soaked for gentle extraction before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. A portion of whole bunches is included to bring structure and spice. The wine is matured in a selection of older French oak barrels to preserve fruit integrity and add subtle complexity without overt oak influence.

In the glass, it’s vibrant ruby with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb and dried herbs, alongside floral notes of rose petal and hints of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and flavours of cranberry, savoury spice and gentle earthiness. The finish is long and fine, with a touch of minerality that lingers.

Serve it with roast duck, salmon with pomegranate glaze or a beetroot and walnut tart. It is drinking beautifully now but has the finesse to evolve over the next five to seven years.
