Real viognier character here with sliced white peaches, lime, lemon, and crushed pears, too. It’s full-bodied with lemon rind and stone with lots of intensity and depth at the end. Drink now.

Very light colour with aromas of bread-dough, fresh and dried flowers, and some subtle spice-mix notes. A complex bouquet, which may owe something to (very subtle) barrel use. It brings out something extra in the fruit without adding overt oak character. The texture of the wine is delicious: soft and yet subtly assertive at the same time. Properly dry, with really appealing balance and farewell. 29 JUL 2022 Drink 2022–2028

Alex Head is a fan of the wines of Château-Grillet in the northern Rhône, and I can totally see where he is going with this baby. Flaxman Valley–sourced viognier, whole-bunch pressed to barrel, 12 months on lees in 50% new Austrian oak. It's flighty and filigreed with lovely sapid citrus fruits dusted with apricot nuance, soft spice, clotted cream, white flowers, a whiff of struck match and crushed stone. Textured yet taut and driven with plenty of clarity, detail and minerally persistence on the finish.
