Dense, opaque, old-blood liquid that stains the glass as it is swirled – as with the ’20 a year ago. There are untold layers of very black fruits here, plus a dab of chocolate borrowed from McLaren Vale. I'm not in two minds about this, it's more like 20. So precocious.

The wine has an intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the centre of the glass. It offers some very unique and distinctive aromas of blackberry and intriguing notes of spice, and the perfume of blueberries. The palate is cool, fresh and lightly but persistently fruity and zingy. The finish is fine, natural and unforced. There is some cream and spice from the French oak but its all about the pure fruit.
