A solid, well-shaped, focused and vibrant riserva with aromas of wild currants, Morello cherries, warm herbs and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins, yet it has so much intensity and drive. Structured and balanced, with great energy at the center. Succulent and agile, with a lively core of juicy forest berries mingling with the dried herbs and funneling toward the focused, medium finish. Try from 2026.

Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva is a distinguished expression of Sangiovese from the heart of Tuscany, crafted by the historic Mazzei family, whose winemaking heritage dates back to 1435. This Riserva, named in honor of Ser Lapo Mazzei, one of the first figures to reference Chianti wine in historical documents, is a celebration of tradition, elegance, and exceptional quality.
The Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva is sourced from select vineyards within the Chianti Classico DOCG, planted on the region’s limestone-rich alberese and galestro soils. These soils, combined with the Tuscan climate of warm days and cool nights, provide the ideal environment for Sangiovese to thrive, yielding grapes with intense flavors, fine tannins, and vibrant acidity.
The wine is primarily composed of Sangiovese, with a small proportion of Merlot to enhance richness and balance. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit and aromatic precision. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a mix of French oak barrels and larger casks, followed by additional time in bottle before release. This aging process enhances structure and complexity while maintaining the wine’s signature freshness.
In the glass, Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva displays a deep ruby-red color. The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of red cherries, wild berries, and plums, layered with notes of dried herbs, tobacco, leather, and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity supporting flavors of ripe red fruit, savory herbs, and a hint of cocoa. The finish is long and refined, reflecting the wine’s balance and depth.
This Riserva pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragu, or pappardelle with truffles. It also complements aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano-Reggiano. While ready to drink now, Ser Lapo has the structure to age gracefully for 8-12 years, developing even greater complexity and refinement over time.
