Just the right edge of black pepper and a substantial base of juicy, engaging cherry-plum fruit. This is the Langi song sung true and proper. There are no rough edges here, and no signs that it's trying too hard either. It's a quality wine – it just is. It lays out everything in good measure and ties all the pieces together confidently through the finish.

Mount Langi Ghiran Mast Shiraz from the Grampians is a powerful yet poised cool-climate Shiraz that has earned its place as one of Australia’s most distinctive and cellar-worthy reds. Grown on the granite-rich slopes of the Grampians ranges, the Mast vineyard sits high and exposed, where brisk winds and cool nights help produce Shiraz with depth, spice and exceptional natural acidity. This is a wine that balances intensity with finesse — it’s built to last but also layered and expressive in its youth.

The fruit is hand-picked and fermented in small batches with gentle cap management to extract fine tannins and aromatic detail. The wine is then matured in French oak (typically around 30–40 percent new) for 14 to 18 months. The approach in the winery is about transparency — letting the vineyard’s signature notes of black pepper, dark fruit and florals shine through without overwhelming them with oak or over-extraction.

In the glass, Mast Shiraz delivers dark plum, blackberry, cracked black pepper, dried herbs and violets, with background notes of earth, graphite and subtle oak spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, driven by firm yet silky tannins, bright acidity and a savoury, mineral-laced finish. There’s a quiet power to it, layered and deeply expressive, with a long future ahead.

Food pairing: Superb with roast lamb and rosemary, beef eye fillet, chargrilled eggplant with miso glaze, or duck with black pepper and red wine sauce. Also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses like Manchego or aged cheddar.

Cellar potential: Built for the long term. Will reward 10 to 20 years in the cellar, evolving complexity, earthiness and fine structure with age.
