Colla’s 2021 Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is elegant and sophisticated. Wild cherry, incense, blood orange, tobacco and rose petal lift effortlessly from the glass, supported by beams of tannin that lend shape as well as energy. Still tightly wound, the 2021 is going to need a few years to come into its own. There’s a certainly a lot to look forward to. The Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is such an archetype for what Barolos from Bussia are all about.

The Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba is one of the most celebrated sites in Barolo, producing Nebbiolo with depth, structure and remarkable longevity. Within this historic vineyard lies Dardi Le Rose, a prized parcel that Poderi Colla has farmed with great care. The Colla family has deep roots in the Langhe and is widely respected for preserving traditional Barolo character. Today the estate continues that philosophy, crafting wines that express vineyard identity while allowing Nebbiolo’s natural power and complexity to unfold slowly with age.

In the glass the wine shows a classic garnet colour with ruby reflections. Aromas are intense and beautifully layered, revealing rose petal, dried cherry and wild raspberry alongside hints of liquorice, tar and crushed herbs. With time in the glass, deeper notes of tobacco, truffle and forest floor emerge, adding complexity.

The structure is powerful yet refined, with vibrant red fruit framed by firm, well defined tannins and bright acidity that give the wine both lift and ageing potential. Flavours of dried cherry, spice and earthy nuance develop through the wine, supported by a mineral backbone typical of the Bussia hillside. The finish is long and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dried rose, spice and savoury depth.

Braised beef, venison, truffle pasta or aged Parmigiano Reggiano complement the wine’s structure and complexity. With its concentration and balance, Poderi Colla Bussia Dardi Le Rose Barolo will continue to evolve beautifully for twenty five years or more in the cellar.
