Rijckaert Mâcon-Villages Vieilles Vignes is a beautifully crafted white wine from the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, showcasing the purity, finesse, and approachable charm of Chardonnay. Produced by the talented Jean Rijckaert, a winemaker with a deep respect for Burgundy’s terroir and traditions, this wine highlights the incredible quality that can be achieved from older vines (vieilles vignes) in the region’s limestone-rich soils.

The vineyards are planted with mature Chardonnay vines, many of which are over 50 years old, drawing deep into the clay-limestone soils of the Mâconnais. These older vines produce smaller yields of concentrated grapes, imparting depth, texture, and complexity to the final wine. The Mâconnais’ warm, sunny climate ensures ripeness, while the limestone terroir adds the hallmark minerality and freshness that define classic Burgundy.

Jean Rijckaert’s winemaking philosophy focuses on minimal intervention to preserve the natural character of the fruit and the vineyard. After careful hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and neutral French oak barrels. Aging on fine lees for several months enhances texture and balance while maintaining the wine’s crisp vibrancy.

In the glass, Rijckaert Mâcon-Villages Vieilles Vignes displays a pale gold hue with bright reflections. The nose is fresh and inviting, offering aromas of ripe pear, green apple, citrus zest, and white flowers, layered with subtle hints of hazelnut and wet stone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully textured, with flavors of lemon curd, orchard fruit, and a distinct chalky minerality. A vibrant acidity lifts the wine, leading to a long, clean, and refreshing finish.

This Mâcon-Villages is wonderfully versatile, pairing perfectly with grilled fish, roast chicken, or creamy vegetable risotto. It also complements light pasta dishes, seafood platters, and fresh goat cheese, making it an excellent choice for casual dining or elegant meals.
