The previous iteration was so exceptional that it set a high bar. Still, very good and clearly synergistic with the region as a late ripener. The tannins twirl and bind the fruit, a ferrous cladding across the mouth. Blood plum, dried tobacco, anise and bergamot. A wine that is suited to five-years of age before revealing its innermost sanctum, auguring so well for the future of this great variety here.

Deep, bold purple-red colour with a powerful aroma of dark berries and dark plums laced with vanilla/coconut oak and the aromas and flavours are slightly callow. It has good concentration of flavour and generous oak, the finish firm and slightly harsh with acidity and tannin astringency. This needs cellar time and hearty protein-rich food. A high-quality red with serious potential. Drink 2026–2036.

Aglianico is often mentioned as one of the top three Italian red varieties (along Nebbiolo and Sangiovese). Its naturally abundant tannins can be managed and overcome through practices both in the vineyard and in the winery. What makes the variety highly regarded is its ability to convert site specific nuances while preserving a balance of rustic charm, acidity and powerful flavour. With average temperatures likely to steadily increase across the southern parts of Australia, this heat loving flagbearer of Campania is likely to be of increased interest to our local winemakers.
Rustic leathery aromas, sun dried prunes, pepper and spice, chestnut and fruit coated with dark chocolate. A great example of a red variety with natural tannin meant to be grown in a warm place. The mouthfeel reminds you of all the Italian things you admire: it just smells, tastes and feels right. Drink with hearty rustic dishes. Likely to improve with a bit of cellaring, and could be a candiaddate for the long term, too.
