Bethany is where Jason Schwarz's heart is and the fruit for this Grenache comes from the family's vineyard on Thiele Road. Planted in 1941, there is some impressive history staring at you from the glass. As with previous releases, this is dense and savoury. A Grenache to pour, chat deep and ponder. Classy stuff. 

Red berries and mulberries skip about eager to get your affection. And they do. The mouth is consumed by depth with dark cherry and Ribena cameos. Some star anise, baking spices and a subtle pan juice presence keep this digging deeper. Waves of spices roll on to a persistent and moreish finish. Yep, this is a class act.

Thiele Road is one of Schwarz Wine Co's signature wines, highlighting the remarkable character of old vine Grenache from the Barossa Valley. Founded by Jason Schwarz, the winery has earned a loyal following for producing small batch wines that champion exceptional vineyards, minimal intervention and vibrant fruit expression while allowing each site to tell its own story.

Sourced from mature vines planted in the sandy soils of Bethany, the fruit benefits from warm Barossa days and cool evening breezes that preserve freshness and perfume. Gentle handling, wild fermentation and restrained oak maturation allow the vineyard's purity and old vine character to shine through in every bottle.

The colour is a brilliant ruby crimson with youthful garnet highlights. Aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry and blood plum are joined by rose petals, five spice and dried herbs. The palate is finely textured and beautifully balanced, carrying vibrant red berry fruits through silky tannins and lively acidity. Hints of anise, earthy spice and crushed stone linger across a long, graceful finish that reflects the elegance of old vine Barossa Grenache.

A wonderful match for slow roasted lamb shoulder, duck breast, wood fired pizza, grilled eggplant with tahini or mushroom ragù with pappardelle. Drinking beautifully now, this expressive Grenache will continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade.
